WHY DO WE STRUGGLE?

“God is our place of safety. He gives us strength. He is ALWAYS THERE TO HELP US (Psa. 46:1)

Moses was called by God to deliver Israel from captivity, God showed him many miraculous signs to support his confidence in God but Moses said: “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” (Exo. 4:13)

We may be tempted to resist what God is calling us to do, believe me, He certainly knows what we are suited for and He knows the greatest way to accomplish it!

When God informed Abraham that he and his wife would have a son: Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?” (Gen. 17:17)

God assured Abraham and us as well“Is anything too hard for the LORD?” (Gen.  18:14)

Now, we know of the struggles the disciples had after Jesus was crucified, Peter declared: “I am 1going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” (John 21:3) 1hupagō: to withdraw or retire (as if sinking out of sight).

So, Peter was retiring from his calling and going back to fishing. We know the story, they fished all night and caught nothing! Jesus appeared on shore and called out to them to cast the net on the other side of the boat and it was filled with 153 great fish, then Jesus asked Peter: “…do you love me more than these [this catch of fish]?” (John 21:15).

Because of this conversation and conversion: “…people brought the sick into the streets…so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by…and all of them were healed. (Acts 5:15)

We can see that it is not unusual for us to struggle so, what must we do?

“…let us lay aside everything that stands in our way. Let us throw off any sin that holds on to us so tightly. Let us keep on running the race marked out FOR US. fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…” (Heb. 12:1-2)

Come on, let’s let go of anything that’s holding us back…Bill Stockham
