“…who in the heavens can be compared to the LORD? God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, And to be held in reverence by all those around Him. O LORD God of hosts, Who is mighty like You, O LORD? Your faithfulness also surrounds You. YOU RULE THE RAGING OF THE SEA; When its waves rise, You still them.” (Psa. 89:6-9)
The sea of Galilee’s location makes it subject to sudden and violent storms as the wind comes over the eastern mountains and drops suddenly onto the sea. The cold air (being heavier) drops as the warm air rises. This sudden change can produce surprisingly FURIOUS STORMS in a short time, as it did in Jesus’ day. This day CAMDEN, Jesus was in the boat with the disciples.
Jesus said, “Let us cross over to the other side…they took Jesus along in the boat…and a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing? (These were experienced fishermen)” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “WHO CAN THIS BE, that EVEN THE WIND AND THE SEA OBEY HIM!” (Mark 4:35-41) Yes of course because as it says in the 89th Psalm, “YOU RULE THE RAGING OF THE SEA”
Jesus can calm any raging sea in our lives…
