“Moses, the servant of the LORD, DIED there in the land of Moab, just as the LORD had said. The LORD BURIED HIM in a valley near Beth-peor in Moab, but to this day NO ONE KNOWS THE EXACT PLACE. Moses was 120 years old when he died, yet HIS EYESIGHT WAS CLEAR, and he was AS STRONG AS EVER.” (Deut. 34:5-7)
Right before the children of Israel entered the promise land Moses, who was in very good health died! WHY? Just to be clear about God’s special relationship with Moses, “Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman he had married…they said, “Has the LORD indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?” And the LORD heard it…and came down and called Aaron and Miriam. And they both went forward. Then He said…If there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, make Myself known to him in a vision; I speak to him in a dream. Not so with My servant Moses; He is faithful in all My house. I speak with him FACE TO FACE, Even plainly, and not in dark sayings; And HE SEES THE FORM OF THE LORD. Why then were you not afraid To speak against My servant Moses?” (Num. 12:1-2, 5-8) “Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, about the body of Moses…” (Jude 1:9) The devil wanted to give the body of Moses to the Jews so they make an idol of him would worship him.
“…the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. SPEAK TO THE ROCK BEFORE THEIR EYES, and it will yield its water…“ (Num. 20:7-8) Moses was very angry with the people’s constant complaining, “Then Moses lifted his hand and STRUCK THE ROCK TWICE with his rod; and water came out abundantly…Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you DID NOT BELIEVE ME, TO HALLOW ME in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not BRING THIS ASSEMBLY INTO THE LAND (Moses will not take them into the promise land because He disobeyed God) which I have given them.” (Num. 20:11-12) When the Lord told Moses to strike the rock in Exodus 17:6 to show a picture of the crucifixion of Christ, “…they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and THAT ROCK WAS CHRIST.” (1 Corin. 10:4) Thus picturing Jesus was sacrificed ONLY ONCE to bring us salvation.
