I like the way the Message expressess this verse, “Give YOUR ENTIRE ATTENTION to what God is doing RIGHT NOW, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” (Matthew 6:34) Jesus taught us that we should not be anxious about tomorrow, but He did not teach that we should ignore tomorrow! In fact, to the contrary, Jesus taught that our view of the future ought to be uppermost in our thinking about HOW WE SHOULD LIVE TODAY. As followers of Jesus Christ, we should think often about the fact that He is coming soon and that EVERY PERSON MUST STAND BEFORE HIM TO GIVE AN ACCOUNT.
“Look here, you people who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to such and such a town, stay there a year, and open up a profitable business.” HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TOMORROW? For the length of your lives is as uncertain as the morning fog—now you see it; soon it is gone. What you ought to say is, “IF IT’S THE LORD’S WILL, WE SHALL LIVE AND DO THIS OR THAT.” If you do that, YOU ARE PROUD. You brag about it. That kind of bragging IS EVIL. Remember, too, that KNOWING WHAT IS RIGHT to do and then NOT DOING IT IS SIN.” (James 4:13-17)
Why is that kind of bragging evil? Because, God says, “I HATE PRIDE and bragging. I hate evil ways and twisted words.” (Proverbs 8:13) “God gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God OPPOSES (antitassomai: to range in battle against) the proud but SHOWS FAVOR TO THE HUMBLE.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. RESIST (anthistēmi: to set one’ s self against) THE DEVIL (he is the one trying to get us to go against God), and HE WILL FLEE FROM YOU. Come near to God and HE WILL COME NEAR TO YOU.” (James 4:6-8)
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE CAN DO RIGHT NOW IS REMEMBER WE ARE HEIRS OF GOD AND JOINT-HEIRS WITH JESUS CHRIST…
