WE MUST LISTEN!

“He called the crowd to Him and…began saying to them, LISTEN TO ME, all of you, and understand…” (Mark 7:14)

When we get a call from a friend, how do we know it’s really our friend? We know because we know our friend. By spending time with our friend, we know how they talk—we know the expressions they use, the tone of their voice and the changes in their pitch when they’re happy or sad. That’s the way it should be with God: We should know Him—His character, His nature, His interests, His pleasures and displeasure, His joys and hurts—so well that we recognize Him and his involvement in our life. God is inviting us to know more than just His voice, though. He is inviting us to intimately know Him. What an awesome opportunity.

My sheep HEAR MY VOICE, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27)

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, then we belong to Him. We already have the capability of discerning God’s voice when He speaks to us. This happens through the work of the Holy Spirit.

“Whoever belongs to God HEARS WHAT GOD SAYS…” (John 8:47)

If we are not hearing God’s voice how can you fix this?  It’s simple really. We must go someplace where it’s quiet. Prepare our heart to listen. God is speaking. Let’s reposition ourselves, our attitude, our belief, to hear Him. We’ll offer up our prayers to God then quiet our voice and quiet our mind and listen. Remember that God is with us whenever we stop for a moment to listen.

Be still, and know that I am God…” (Psalms 46:10)
