“There is one Lord, one God and Father of all, who is OVER ALL, IN ALL, and LIVING THROUGH ALL.” (Eph. 4:5-6) Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet YOU STILL DON’T KNOW WHO I AM? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show Him to you? Don’t you believe that I AM IN THE FATHER AND THE FATHER IS IN ME? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me DOES HIS WORK THROUGH ME.” (John 14:8-10)
Then Jesus explains to them, “I also tell you this: If two of you AGREE here on earth concerning ANYTHING YOU ASK, MY FATHER IN HEAVEN WILL DO IT FOR YOU. For where two or three gather together as my followers, I AM THERE AMONG THEM.” (Matt. 18:19-20) To alleviate any fears of them being stranded, “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you ANOTHER HELPER, that He may ABIDE (menō: to continue to be, to remain) WITH YOU FOREVER— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but YOU KNOW HIM, for He dwells with you and WILL BE IN YOU. I will not leave you orphans; I WILL COME TO YOU.” (John 14:15-18)
THIS IS WHAT WE ARE BEING PROMISED:
- THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL BE WITH US FOREVER: “He may ABIDE (menō: to continue to be, to remain) WITH YOU FOREVER”
- JESUS SAID “I WILL COME TO YOU”: “I will not leave you orphans; I WILL COME TO YOU.”
- THE FATHER IS HERE IN US AS WELL: He is the, “Father of all, who is OVER ALL, IN ALL, and LIVING THROUGH ALL.”
