“I will sing of MERCY To You, O LORD, I will sing praises. I will behave WISELY in a perfect way. Oh, when will You come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will NOT KNOW WICKEDNESS.” (Psa. 101:1-4) Just what is mercy AMY? Mercy comes from the Hebrew word chesed which is a hard word to translate into English. The theological importance of the word chesed is that it stands more than any other word for the attitude which two persons in a covenant relationship should have towards each other. Sir George Adam Smith suggested the rendering the term ‘leal–love.’ which combines the two ideas of LOVE and LOYALTY, both of which are crucial in our relationship with God. When I Pastored I use to like to sing this song using “walk” instead of “talk”
I once was lost in sin but Jesus took me in
And then a little light from heaven filled my soul
It bathed my heart in love and wrote my name above
And just a little walk with Jesus made me whole
Now let us have a little walk with Jesus
Let us tell Him all about our troubles
He will hear our faintest cry
He will answer by and by
Now when you feel a little prayer wheel turning
And you know a little fire is burning
You will find a little talk with Jesus makes it right
So the psalmist is singing Love and Loyalty (devotion or faithfulness) to God which should be our desire as well, AMY!!! He desires to do this wisely, sâkal: to have awareness and a reason to consider. The Lord will make us aware of our behavior and show us how we can WALK and LIVE in a more perfect manner for Him…
