In the midst of Job’s severe trial he said, “Look, I go forward, but He is not there, and backward, but I cannot perceive Him; When He works on the left hand, I cannot behold Him; When He turns to the right hand, I cannot see Him. But HE KNOWS the way that I take; When He has tested me, I SHALL COME FORTH AS GOLD. My foot has HELD FAST to His steps; I have kept His way and NOT TURNED ASIDE. I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have TREASURED THE WORDS OF HIS MOUTH MORE THAN MY NECESSARY FOOD.” (Job 23:8-12)
The Lord gave this instruction to Joshua as he took over the job of Moses, “Study this Book of Instruction (the Bible) CONTINUALLY, you shall MEDITATE in it day and night, that you may observe TO DO according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way PROSPEROUS, and then you will have GOOD SUCCESS.” (Joshua 1:8)
The Lord expresses the IMPORTANCE of His Word, “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, SO SHALL MY WORD BE that goes out from my mouth; it shall NOT RETURN TO ME EMPTY, but it shall accomplish THAT WHICH I PURPOSE, and SHALL SUCCEED in the thing for which I sent it. “For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in PEACE; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into SINGING, and all the trees of the field shall CLAP THEIR HANDS.” (Isaiah 55:10-12)
God’s Word is LIVING, God’s Word is full of POWER! WHEN IT IS SPOKEN, NATURE RESPONDS TO IT. That is why David said, “How can a young person stay pure? By OBEYING your word. I have tried hard to find you—don’t let me wander from your commands. I have HIDDEN YOUR WORD IN MY HEART, that I might not sin against you.” (Psalms 119:9-11)
