Jesus taught us to pray ETHAN, KATIE, “Your kingdom come. YOUR WILL BE DONE On earth as it is in heaven.” (Matt. 6:10) Jesus taught us, “If you abide (menō: continue to be) in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” The New Living Translation says it this way, “…if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” (John 15:7) The point is if we dedicate our lives to Jesus, TO DO His will, He will give us all we need to DO ALL HE WOULD HAVE US TO DO.
God wants us to discover His will. And true praying is not overcoming God’s reluctance; it is TAKING HOLD OF HIS WILLINGNESS. Prayer is not about getting our will in Heaven; it is about getting God’s will on earth. Faith in the Word of God is the only FIRM FOUNDATION upon which a we as Christian’s can build our prayer life. As Jesus stated “I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. But when you are praying, FIRST FORGIVE ANYONE YOU ARE HOLDING A GRUDGE AGAINST, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.” (Mark 11:24-25) Prayer and faith in God’s Word go hand-in-hand. Whatever God has promised in His Word to us as Christians, we can, with faith, pray for. This is yet another reason why it is so vital for each Christian to KNOW THE WRITTEN WORD OF GOD, because it is our basis to know what is available through prayer, and what is the right attitude to have when we pray.
