“The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but…” (Deut. 29:29a) This verse actually tells us two important truths. It reminds us first of all that our knowledge is limited, and there are many things about God and the universe we do not know. But GOD DOES KNOW; in fact, His knowledge is limitless. For example, you and I don’t know what will happen a day from now, or a year from now–but God does know, and because He does, we can “Trust in the LORD with ALL OUR HEART, And lean not on our own understanding; In all our ways acknowledge Him, And He shall DIRECT OUR PATHS.” (Pro. 3:5-6) There is so much in the Word of God that the Lord expects us TO DO. “…those things WHICH ARE REVEALED BELONG TO US and to our children forever, that WE MAY DO ALL the words…” (Deut. 29:29b) This verse also reminds us that there is much we do know about God and His will–and the reason is because God has revealed it to us. This is why the Bible is so important, because it is GOD’S WORD, and in it we learn who He is and how HE WANTS US TO LIVE. Most importantly of all, the Bible points us to Christ, who came to save us from our sins and give us the wonderful gift of eternal life.
Let’s learn the importance of OUR HEART, Jesus had just forgiven a man OF HIS SINS, “…some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but GOD ALONE?” But IMMEDIATELY, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things IN YOUR HEARTS?” (Mark 2:6-8) Forgiveness is the greatest miracle that Jesus ever performs. It meets the greatest need; it costs the greatest price; and it brings the greatest blessing and the most lasting results. For men, both real forgiveness and the power to heal are impossible, but for God, both are easy. It is a logical assumption that if Jesus has the power to heal the man’s disease, He also has the authority to forgive his sins. And JESUS DOES BOTH!!!
