Jeremiah found the Word of God and declared, “Your words were found, and I ATE (‘âkal: to cause to devour, to take in) them, And YOUR WORD WAS TO ME THE JOY AND REJOICING of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts…So the LORD says, “Turn away from your sins. Then I will heal you. And then you will be able to serve me. Speak words that are worthy, not worthless. Then you will be SPEAKING FOR ME. Let these people turn to you. But you MUST NOT TURN TO THEM.” (Jeremiah 15:16, 19)
The LAW (tôrâh: instruction) of the LORD IS PERFECT, CONVERTING the soul; The testimony of the LORD IS SURE (‘âman: to stand firm, to trust, to be certain), MAKING WISE THE SIMPLE…” (Psalms 19:7) This phrase, “the law of the Lord,” is a Hebrew term that is used to define God’s instruction, Scripture. It is speaking of all of God’s Word.
The STATUTES (piqqûḏîm: a properly appointed mandate of God) of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The COMMANDMENT of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes…” (Psalms 19:8) God’s Word is so alive it “opens our eyes” (reveals itself) to our understanding of the scripture.
More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold, Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover, by them YOUR SERVANT IS WARNED (God warns us of the consequences of disobeying His Word), And IN KEEPING THEM THERE IS GREAT REWARD.” (Psalms 19:10-11) Why is there GREAT REWARD? Because “All Scripture is GOD–BREATHED (theopneustos: God’s breath) and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) When God created Adam, “…the LORD God BREATHED INTO ADAMS NOSTRILS the breath of life, and the man became a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7) When we read the Bible, God BREATHES His Word into us so we will UNDERSTAND it and be EMPOWERED by it.
