“Oh, send out YOUR LIGHT AND YOUR TRUTH! Let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your tabernacle.” (Psa. 43:1-4) The psalmist prays send out you light and truth… The Lord answers with, “I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. No one comes to the Father EXCEPT THROUGH ME.” (John 14:6) The truth that Jesus is the way to God is echoed by His claim to be the Door of the Sheep, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the DOOR of the sheep.” (John 10:7)
Seven year old Liam and his four year old sister Emma are out on the back deck, on the southwest side of the mountain in Southern Oregon, with their mom and dad, Jan and Bob. They’re enjoying a late breakfast outside because it’s a beautiful sunny morning. Suddenly there’s a knock on their door and a firefighter full of urgency asks them to evacuate. “Why?” they ask. “A fire is coming,” the firefighter says. “It’s more than a mile away now, but it will be here this afternoon,” the firefighter explains. The family asks, “ISN’T THERE ANOTHER WAY?” The firefighter wishes there was another way, but he knows THIS IS THE ONLY WAY.
If there were another way, why would God allow His Son Jesus to endure all the brutality He suffered. They beat Him while He was blindfolded, they mocked Him and spit upon Him, they pulled out His beard, they flogged Him.
ALL BECAUSE HE IS THE ONLY WAY…
