“Heaven and earth will pass away, but MY WORDS WILL NEVER PASS AWAY.” (Mark 13:31)
Therefore it is so important for us to be as David, “I have hidden your word IN MY HEART so that I won’t sin against you.” (Psalms 119:11)
Then, the Lord tells us: “Whoever makes an offering of praise gives glory to me; and to him who is upright in his ways I will make clear the salvation of God.” (Psalms 50:23)
This is what is illustrated in the following incident:
“While Jesus was in Bethany…a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. SHE BROKE THE JAR AND POURED THE PERFUME ON HIS HEAD.” (Mark 14:3)
This woman didn’t bring a potluck dish to this dinner they were having, but she did bring a “beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume.” This wasn’t some cheap bottle of perfume; it would have cost about a year’s worth of wages. For this perfume to cost so much, it must have had a beautiful scent. But what really pleased the LORD was this woman DEMONSTRATING HER LOVING HEART.
“Some of the people there became angry. They said to one another, “Why waste this perfume?” (Mark 14:4)
Jesus knew her heart and said to those present: “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me…She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand TO PREPARE FOR MY BURIAL.” (Mark 14:6-8)
This woman showed what keeping the first and greatest commandment was all about:
“You shall love the Lord your God with ALL your heart and with ALL your soul and with ALL your mind.” (Matt. 22:37)
