“John saw Jesus coming, and said, “BEHOLD! THE LAMB OF GOD WHO TAKES AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD! John said, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven, and He remained upon Him. He who sent me to baptize with water said, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and testified that THIS IS THE SON OF GOD.” (John 1:29-34)
Why did Jesus get baptized? Peter says, “Repent, and let EVERY ONE OF YOU be baptized…” (Acts 2:38) He taught this because of what Jesus taught him, “Go, make disciples, BAPTIZING THEM in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19) Why did John call Jesus the Lamb of God? The prophet Isaiah said, “HE WAS LED AS A LAMB TO THE SLAUGHTER, And they made His grave with the wicked—Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You MAKE HIS SOUL AN OFFERING FOR SIN…” (Isa. 53:7-10) Peter taught us that we, “knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, but with THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF CHRIST, as of A LAMB WITHOUT BLEMISH AND WITHOUT SPOT.” (1 Pet. 1:18-19)
JESUS WAS SLAUGHTERED AS A PERFECT LAMB TO REDEEM US FROM OUR SINS…
