THE GRASSHOPPER SYNDROME!

“We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). WE SEEMED LIKE GRASSHOPPERS IN OUR OWN EYES, and we looked the same to them.” (Num. 13:33)

Caleb silenced the people who were complaining before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” (Num. 13:33) But the men who had gone up with Caleb said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” (Num. 13:33)

When obstacles stand in our way, are we like Caleb ready to overcome anything? Or are we like the other men who went to spy out the land, only seeing the SIZE OF THE OBSTACLE AND OUR OWN WEAKNESS? Too often, we see our obstacles as giants and ourselves as mere grasshoppers, helpless to do anything. We give up, thinking that THERE’S NO WAY WE CAN POSSIBLY OVERCOME. Let’s look at what they saw the Lord accomplish:

  1. Moses stretched out his hand over the sea…and turned it into DRY LAND. The waters were divided and God’s people crossed over…
  2. When the enemy started following them, God turned the sea loose…
  3. They found water to bitter to drink, Moses threw in a piece of wood and God healed the waters so millions could drink…
  4. All the people grumbled because there was no food, so God provided the miracle manna from heaven, enough to feed millions daily…
  5. the Amalekite army was miraculously defeated…and many, many other wonderful things

I want to encourage you to do what I have done, make a list of all the challenges you have faced and how God miraculously provided for you and your loved ones, remembering: “Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! NOTHING IS TOO HARD FOR YOU.” (Jeremiah 32:17)

I thank you our Abba Father for loving us so much that you always make a way, please open our eyes to see and appreciate all you do!

Let’s just thank the Lord together…Bill Stockham
