THE DISCIPLES WERE ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED…

The disciples took Jesus in the boat and started out, But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and IT BEGAN TO FILL WITH WATER. (Mark 4:36) I’m sure they frantically began to bail the water out of the boat, remember, these were experienced boatmen. Such storms result from differences in temperatures between the seacoast and the mountains beyond. The Sea of Galilee lies 680 feet below sea level. The Sea of Galilee is small, and these winds may descend directly to the center of the lake with violent results. When the contrasting air masses meet, a storm can arise quickly and without warning. Small boats caught out on the sea are in immediate danger.

JESUS WAS SLEEPING at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples WOKE HIM UP, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” (Mark 4:36-38) It seems their thought was “get up and help us bail out the boat. When Jesus woke up, He rebuked the wind and said to the waves, PEACE! BE STILL!” SUDDENLY the wind stopped, and there was a GREAT CALM. Then He asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” The disciples were ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey Him!” (Mark 4:39-41)

THERE IS NO REASON FOR US TO BE TERRIFIED BECAUSE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO LIMIT OF WHAT GOD CAN DO FOR US…
