Exodus 34:27 records God’s words to Moses, “Write down THESE WORDS, for in accordance with THESE WORDS I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” And what language did Moses use? He wrote in his native language, called Hebrew. So, what happened to the Hebrew language?
When Eliezer Ben-Yehuda arrived in Palestine in 1881, Hebrew had not been the spoken language of the Jewish people since THE TIME OF THE BIBLE. Yet, thanks to Ben-Yehuda, by 1922 enough Jewish pioneers were speaking Hebrew that the British Mandate authorities recognized it as the OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF JEWS.
What God does, in this amazing Hebrew language is, “It is the glory of God to CONCEAL THINGS, but the glory of kings is to SEARCH THINGS OUT.” (Proverbs 25:2) Jesus taught us to, “…SEARCH (ereunaō: to examine or investigate) THE SCRIPTURES, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.” (John 5:39)
So, let’s investigate the very FIRST WORD in the bible, “BERESHIT” בראשית in Hebrew. Hebrew is written and read from right to left. Very basically Bereshit means: “The son of God, crowned with thorns upon His head, on a tree, a gift of the covenant” בראשית
- ב(beyt, today ב): image of a house, tent
-
(resh, today ר): image of a man’s head
-
(aleph, today א): image of an ox’s head
-
(shin, today ש): image of two front teeth
(yud, today י): image of arm and hand
-
(tav, today ת): image of a cross
These are the Hebrew name of the letters, (beyt-resh-aleph-shin-yud-tav) beyt (house, tent), resh (first person, head), aleph (God), shin (consume, destroy, crush), yud (hand, arm, works), and tav (covenant, mark, cross). Beyt and resh, when combined, make the word “Son, Bar.” like in Bar mitzvah, So the Bereshit sequence of letters can be read “Son of God left heaven-destroyed-by own people’s hand-on a cross,” or “The Son of God left heaven and is destroyed, by His own people on the cross.”
“I will put enmity between you and the woman—between your seed and HER SEED (Jesus). He will crush your head, and you will crush his heel.” (Genesis 3:15) “He (Jesus) was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities. The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)
“Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, DECLARING THE END (Jesus death on the cross) FROM THE BEGINNING (Bereshit), And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’” (Isaiah 46:9-10)
