The Lord keeps reminding me TOMMY, of the importance of READING and MEDITATING on His word. After Jesus fasted for 40 days He, “…was led out into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit, to be tempted there by Satan.” (Matt. 4:1) Jesus was hungry after His lengthy fast, “The tempter (Satan) came to Him and said, “IF you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on EVERY WORD that comes from the mouth of God.'” (Matt. 4:3-4) Two other times the devil tempted Jesus and each time Jesus answered with the scripture, “Then the devil went away, and angels came and ministered to Jesus.” (Matt. 4:11)
If Jesus used the Word of God against the devil, don’t you think that would be good for us TO USE IT AS WELL! Why should we use the Word of God? “…the word of God is LIVING and POWERFUL, and SHARPER than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, IT EXPOSES our innermost thoughts and desires.” (Heb. 4:12) God’s Word is NOT just words in a book, they are ALIVE they are POWERFUL they EXPOSE weaknesses in our lives.
Another very good reason, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work.” (2 Tim. 3:16-17) This term “inspired by God” comes from one Greek word, “theopneustos” which means: “God-breathed” So when we open our Bibles and begin to read God breathes His word INTO US and we receive God’s “ESSENCE” into our lives.
