“Now the Spirit expressly (clearly) says that in latter times some will DEPART FROM THE FAITH, giving heed to DECEIVING SPIRITS and DOCTRINES OF DEMONS…” (1 Tim. 4:1) Paul observed this as a revelation from the Holy Spirit; Paul was enlightened and warned us of certain dangers that would mark the latter times.
- The danger of apostasy (some will depart). An article in U.S. News and World Report described a pastor who “Would rather preach on ‘Bosnia, justice, or world peace’ than on Bible stories or personal salvation.” This is just one of many examples of departing from the faith.
- The danger of deception (deceiving spirits). It is hard to say if there is more false teaching today, or if it modern technology is able to spread the lie better. But the old saying is certainly true today: a lie travels at top speed while the truth goes on foot .
- The danger of false teaching (doctrines of demons). Satan, spoke a lie to Eve saying: “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God.”(Genesis 3:4-5). Since then, every demonic doctrine has found its way back to this root: the idea that we can be gods, and operate independently from the only true and living God.
Paul tells Timothy,
TAKE HEED TO YOURSELF AND TO THE DOCTRINE. CONTINUE IN THEM, FOR IN DOING THIS YOU WILL SAVE BOTH YOURSELF AND THOSE WHO HEAR YOU…(1 Tim. 4:16)
