A friend said, “I often hear the saying ‘I want to be ready to meet my Lord.’ Can you explain what exactly this means, please?” Most importantly, being ready to meet the Lord means we’ve made sure of our relationship with Jesus Christ and are trusting ONLY HIM to save us—not anyone or anything else, and certainly not any good works we’ve done. We need to be able to say, “I am ready to meet God face to face tonight…for all my sins are covered by the blood of Jesus.”
Paul teaches us that, “…if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Rom. 10:9-10) Jesus tells us this, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me HAS EVERLASTING LIFE, and shall not come into judgment, but has PASSED from death into life.” (John 5:24)
Once we’ve accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior, being ready to meet the Lord means living in a way that pleases Him so that whenever He calls us home or returns to “catch us away”—and knowing that could be any time—we can hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant; Enter into the joy of your lord.” (Matt. 25:23) The Scripture teaches with obvious clarity, that all believers in Christ will give an account of their lives to their Lord, “…we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.'” So then, each of us will GIVE AN ACCOUNT OF OURSELVES to God.” (Rom. 14:10-12) “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown FOR WHAT IT IS, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, THE BUILDER WILL SUFFER LOSS BUT YET WILL BE SAVED—even though only as one escaping through the flames.” (1 Corin. 3:11-15)
IN THIS JUDGEMENT, IF OUR WORKS ARE BURNED UP, WE WILL STILL BE SAVED, THANK GOD…
