“To the woman God said, I will greatly MULTIPLY YOUR 1SORROW…and to Adam He said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: in SORROW you shall eat of what you plant, all the days of your life…” (Gen. 3:16-17) 1`itstsabown: pain, labor, hardship. One of the curses that sin brings with it, is sorrow! Man’s stubborn rejection of being obedient to God is constant SORROW! Not only for us but for Jesus as well! “Jesus is despised and rejected by men, A MAN OF SORROWS and acquainted with grief. Surely He has borne our griefs And CARRIED OUR SORROWS…” (Isa. 53:3-4)
The old hymn by Philip Bliss is appropriate to quote here:
♫“Man of Sorrows,” what a name
For the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim!
Hallelujah! what a Savior!
Whenever we disobey God, we bring sorrow to Jesus. Just what remedy does the Lord have for this? Paul wrote this about sorrow, “…if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it…I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry…I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow LED TO REPENTANCE. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. FOR GODLY SORROW PRODUCES REPENTANCE LEADING TO SALVATION…” (2 Corin. 7:8-10)
