“Return, you backsliding children, And I will heal your backslidings.” “Indeed we do come to You, For You are the LORD our God. Truly, in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, And from the multitude of mountains; Truly, in the LORD our God IS OUR SALVATION… (Jeremiah 3:22-23) Sin is very sure to cause sorrow; and the longer that sorrow is delayed, the heavier it will be when it comes. There was never a person who broke the law of God who had not at some time regret it. “He who digs a pit will fall into it, And whoever breaks through a wall will be bitten by a serpent.” (Ecclesiastes 10:8) This is most certainly true. How many there are in this world who have a heavy load of sorrow on them which is clearly and evidently the result of their own sin.
There is good news for the backslider! God does not condemn him. God’s loving concern for the backslider is steadfast and sure. The Lord calls that person back to Himself through the work of the Holy Spirit. We can see this clearly in the parable of the prodigal son. In the parable, the father saw his son returning while he was still far off. But the father did not lock the doors or demand that his son leave. Instead, the father joyfully welcomed his return. AS GOD WILL DO WHEN AMY RETURNS!!!
