“God has chosen the FOOLISH THINGS of the world TO SHAME the wise, and God has chosen the WEAK THINGS of the world TO SHAME the things which are strong, and the INSIGNIFICANT THINGS of the world and THE DESPISED God has chosen, the things that ARE NOT, so that He may NULLIFY (katargeō: make of no effect) THE THINGS THAT ARE, so that no human may boast before God.” (1 Corinthians 1:27-29)
Do you remember Satan’s failed attempt to take God’s place? The five “I WILL“ statements made by Satan, God said, “…you have said in your heart: ‘I WILL ascend into heaven, I WILL exalt my throne above the stars of God; I WILL also sit on the mount of the congregation; I WILL ascend above the heights of the clouds, I WILL be like the Most High.'” (Isaiah 14:13-14) God’s response was, “…instead, you will be brought down to the PIT OF HELL, down to its lowest depths.” (Isaiah 14:15)
God explains to us, “…the message of the cross is FOLLISHNESS to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the POWER OF GOD. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? HAS NOT GOD MADE FOOLISH THE WISDOM OF THE WORLD? For since in the wisdom of God the world THROUGH ITS WISDOM DID NOT KNOW HIM, God was pleased through the FOLLISHNESS of what was preached to SAVE THOSE who believe.” (1 Corinthians 1:18-21)
