OVERCOMING HOPELESSNESS…

Sometimes storms can cause a lot damage and destruction in our lives. While the news focuses on environmental storms, there are other storms just as devastating that we experience every day, such as sickness, financial hardship, and broken relationships. These storms of life threaten our peace, comfort, and joy, and often bring about fear, doubt, and hopelessness. “…I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will WIPE AWAY EVERY TEAR from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Rev. 21:3-4)

The disciples found themselves caught in a ferocious storm while on a boat in the middle of the Sea of Galilee and simultaneously in a spiritual storm of FEAR AND DOUBT. They feared for their lives. Jesus was fast asleep in the stern of the boat while the storm was raging. They woke Him and by faith said, “please get up and speak to this storm and it will obey you!” NO, that is what they SHOULD HAVE DONE realizing that this was indeed THE SON OF GOD. “Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that WE ARE PERISHING?” (Mark 4:38) They wanted Him to get a bucket and help bail out the boat! Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, PEACE, BE STILL!” And the wind ceased and there was a GREAT CALM. But He said to them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have NO FAITH?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “WHO CAN THIS BE, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” (Mark 4:39-41)
