“In Jesus was life, and the life was the LIGHT OF MEN…the light SHINES IN THE DARKNESS, and the darkness did not comprehend (understand) it.” (John 1:4-5) And just so we really understand how darkness is OVERCOME, “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that GOD IS LIGHT and in Him is NO DARKNESS AT ALL. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, WE LIE and do not practice the truth. But if we WALK IN THE LIGHT as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son CLEANSES US FROM ALL SIN.” (1 John 1:5-7)
If light symbolizes God, darkness implies everything that is anti-God: the wicked, “…the LORD gives wisdom; When wisdom enters your heart, To DELIVER YOU from the way of evil, From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness…” (Prov. 2:6-14) Paul explains it like this, speaking of the coming of the Lord, “…you, brethren, ARE NOT IN DARKNESS, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us WATCH AND BE SOBER. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.” (1 Thess. 5:4-7)
Jesus makes it very easy to understand when He says in (John 8:12), “I am THE LIGHT of the world. He who follows Me shall NOT WALK IN DARKNESS, but have the LIGHT OF 1LIFE.” 1zoe: the absolute fullness of life, both essential and ethical, which belongs to God. Because Jesus is the, “Light of the world” He has the authority to purchase “Eternal Life” for us!!! Then Jesus let’s us in on our role as born again Christians. He says
YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE BEFORE MEN, THAT THEY MAY SEE YOUR GOOD WORKS AND GLORIFY YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN…(Matt. 5:14-16)
