“All Scripture is GOD–BREATHED and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be THOROUGHLY (to furnish perfectly) equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim. 3:16-17 NIV)
I want you to notice two points from this scripture, CHRISTY:
- GOD–BREATHED: Most translations say “given by inspiration of God” but the Greek phrase is, (theopneustos: theo: GOD, pneustos: TO BREATHE) Jesus is called the “WORD OF GOD” that may be difficult for our feeble minds to comprehend but when God said, “Let there be Light…” the Word and the Breath of God came out of His mouth and immediately, there was light. God spoke it but the bible says, “Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For BY HIM (Jesus) ALL THINGS WERE CREATED that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. ALL THINGS were created by Him…” (Col. 1:15-16) So, we will understand, “…NO ONE KNOWS THE THINGS OF GOD EXCEPT THE SPIRIT OF GOD. Now we have RECEIVED, not the spirit of the world, but THE SPIRIT WHO IS FROM GOD (the Holy Spirit), that we might KNOW THE THINGS that have been freely given to us by God…the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED.” (1 Corin. 2:11-14) The Holy Spirit reveals them to us…
- THOROUGHLY equipped: When we study the Word we become equipped THROUGH–IN and THROUGH–OUT. For example if you take a sponge and dip it in paint it will be throughly covered with paint but if you cut it open the inside will not be SATURATED WITH PAINT you have to IMMERSE AND SOAK THE SPONGE to get it thoroughly (THROUGH–IN and THROUGH–OUT) that’s why David said, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (Psa. 119:11) God is telling us to hide His word away in our hearts. His precious, of limitless value words, should be considered a GREAT TREASURE and hidden away… in our hearts!
