A Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner, “Jesus went to his home to eat…a certain immoral woman heard He was eating, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume…she knelt behind Him, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing His feet and putting perfume on them.” (Luke 7:36-38) So, here is this sinner woman crying on and pouring very expensive perfume on, the feet of Jesus, “When the Pharisee saw this, he said TO HIMSELF, “If this man were a prophet, he would KNOW who is touching him and what kind of woman she is…Jesus answered him (his thought), “Simon, I have something to tell you.” “Tell me, teacher,” (Luke 7:39-40)
Jesus told a parable of two men who owed a lender, one 50 and the other 500, both were forgiven and Jesus asked, “…which of them will love him more?” Simon said, “…the one he forgave more.” Jesus said, “You have rightly judged. Jesus said to Simon, “…See this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water, but she has washed My feet with her tears…You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet…You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil…her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for SHE LOVED MUCH. But to whom little is forgiven, the same LOVES LITTLE.” (Luke 7:42-47)
AMY, Jesus is teaching here that our love is proven by WHAT WE DO not by what we say… Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven…Your faith has saved you. GO IN PEACE.” (Luke 7:48-50)
