“In those days…Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” (Jud. 21:25)
Not too unlike today! What does the bible say about this?
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” (Pro. 14:12)
Job was blessed with such wisdom, he repeated this verse in chapter 16 verse 25 where he also stated: “All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes…” (Pro. 16:2)
We are familiar with the story of Jacob who was cooking stew, when his brother Esau came in from the field and said, “let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.” Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” (Gen. 25:29-33) Obtaining the first-born birthright meant a great deal in those days! I think this may be where the spirit of “IF IT FEELS GOOD, DO IT!” originated. So, what is the problem with this? Well, The Lord God almighty said this:
“The end of the matter; all has been heard. FEAR GOD AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS, for this is THE WHOLE DUTY OF MAN.” (Eccl. 12:13)
OK, the Lord has spoken, the very most important thing we can do is TO FEAR AND OBEY GOD! The LORD GOD ALMIGHTY our creator and maker, CONTROLS OUR FINAL DESTINY! No matter what we may think or believe our whole obligation is to reverence God and be in fear of what will happen if we choose to disobey!
“So, [repent] turn away from your sins. TURN TO GOD. Then your sins will be wiped away. The time will come when the Lord will make everything new.” (Acts 3:19)
