My Dear Grandson Jake,

I just got off the phone with your mom and she told me of your desire to hear from the Lord. If you don’t mind I’d like to share with you about seeking and listening to God.

1. GOD IS HOLY: “…with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at His coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so BE HOLY IN ALL YOU DO; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Pet. 1:13-16) When God wanted TO TALK to Moses, “…God CALLED TO HIM from within the burning bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” “Do not come any closer,” God said. “TAKE OFF YOUR SANDALS, FOR THE PLACE WHERE YOU ARE STANDING IS HOLY GROUND.“ When you have this talk with God Jake, in your place of prayer remove your shoes and acknowledge His HOLY GROUND.
2. GOD STILL KNOWS HOW TO TALK: “Call to me and I WILL ANSWER YOU and show you great and mighty things which you do not know!” (Jer. 33:3) Here is the problem Jake, the devil has “stolen” our ability to “hear” the voice of the Lord. He has “killed” our confidence in actually being able to hear God speak. He has “destroyed” our hope that this will happen again. How do we know this? Jesus said “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” (John 10:10a) Some “wise” ministers today say all we need is God’s Word. What about when Ananias was SPOKEN TO by the Lord to go and pray for Saul (his name later changed to Paul the Apostle). Ananias did not know WHERE HE WAS! “So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus…” Jake, The bible will not tell you if you should go to seminary or not but the LORD will!!! Jesus says to you Jake “I have come that you may have life, and that you may have it MORE ABUNDANTLY.” (John 10:10b) to have a superabundance of life. “Abundant life” refers to life in its plentiful fullness of joy and strength for mind, body, and soul. This comes because of our doing THE LORD’S WILL.
