Jesus says: “COME TO ME, all you who are weary and burdened, and I WILL GIVE YOU REST. TAKE MY YOKE UPON YOU AND LEARN FROM ME, for I am GENTLE and HUMBLE IN HEART, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28-30)
We all may have experienced a deep soul weariness and have felt burdened as a result. Jesus says, He will give us rest, by putting on a yoke? Now, a yoke is a means of governing and linking animals for greater strength. So, how will this give us rest? Well, Jesus is telling us that this is HIS YOKE and our putting it on, WITH HIM, is what will give us rest. The yoke has many implications. One thing we will learn from Jesus is bringing under control our passions and desires…Jesus says His yoke is easy. In perspective the yoke is easy because it brings none of the guilt and suffering that comes with fleshly, immoral actions. That is why His yoke is easy and His burden light. We will learn to have gentleness and humility as a result of His yoke!
