“1WAIT ON THE LORD, And KEEP HIS WAY…Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man IS PEACE…the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, And save them, Because they trust in Him.” (Psa. 37:34-40)
There are three words that are used for “wait,”châkâh: waiting by faith for something to happen, ‛âmad: to take a stand serving God, 1qâvâh: to collect and bind together. That is what this verse is saying! “Come and let us JOIN OURSELVES (châkâh, to be bound together) to the LORD In a PERPETUAL COVENANT That will not BE FORGOTTEN.” (Jer. 50:5) Our God is a God of covenants: which is a written agreement or promise usually under seal between two or more parties especially for the performance of some action. Jesus introduced the “new covenant” “Jesus took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the NEW COVENANT between God and His people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it. For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you PROCLAIM THE LORD’S DEATH till He comes.” (1 Corin. 11:25, 26)
When Jesus prayed the real “Lord’s Prayer” He said, “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom YOU HAVE GIVEN ME, for they are Yours. And ALL MINE ARE YOURS, and YOURS ARE MINE, and I am glorified in them.” (John 17:9-10) Jesus goes on to pray, “Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, KEEP through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be ONE AS WE ARE. While I was with them in the world, I KEPT THEM IN YOUR NAME.” (John 17:11-12) When God created woman, “He brought her to the man. And Adam said: “This is now BONE OF MY BONES AND FLESH OF MY FLESH; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” (Gen. 2:22-23) Jesus revealed this to Paul, “For we are members of His BODY, of His FLESH and of His BONES. “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become ONE FLESH.” This is a GREAT MYSTERY, but I speak concerning CHRIST AND THE CHURCH.” (Eph. 5:30-33)
