JESUS OFFERED UP HIMSELF…

Jesus, “…holds His priesthood permanently, because He continues forever. Consequently, He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to MAKE INTERCESSION (intervention) FOR THEM. For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since HE DID THIS ONCE FOR ALL WHEN HE OFFERED UP HIMSELF.(Hebrews 7:24-27)

Therefore, Christ can save us in ways which the Old Covenant never could. The concept of Jesus saving “to the uttermost” is often taken to mean that God can save anyone, no matter how sinful they may be. That idea is true (1 Corinthians 6:9–11) but is not the point being made here. Instead, the author of Hebrews is echoing the same points made earlier: that Jesus is ETERNALLY AVAILABLE to intercede for us, and to offer us forgiveness, even right now Since then we have a great high priest who has PASSED THROUGH THE HEAVENS, (Our author is speaking of something far more than a spatial journey ((having the nature of space)) like that of an astronaut. His language is that of transcendence. Not only did Jesus ascend, but in doing so He completely transcended all the limitations of time and space. His transcendence guarantees His uniqueness, His greatness.) Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:14–16). “Where a human priest would fall short, Christ can save us entirely, since His priesthood is unending” (Romans 8:34)
