Jesus speaks some comforting, parting words to His disciples, “…now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I WILL SEND HIM (the Comforter) TO YOU…These things I have spoken to you, that IN ME YOU MAY HAVE PEACE. IN THE WORLD YOU WILL HAVE TRIBULATION; but be of good cheer, I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.” (John 16:5-7, 33)
JESUS MAKES THREE PROMISING AND COMFORTING STATEMENTS BENITA:
- I WILL SEND THE COMFORTER: Jesus tells them that the comforter can not come until He goes away. “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you ANOTHER COMFORTER, so that He may BE WITH YOU FOREVER, the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him nor know Him. But you know Him, for He dwells with you and SHALL BE IN YOU.” (John 14:15-17)
- YOU WILL HAVE TRIBULATION: For many peace has been replaced by fear because the only thing the world can see through these troubled times (covid epidemic) is fear. Jesus, the Son of God, went through hell on earth to give us peace beyond this world. So, if Jesus did that for us and IS STILL ALIVE TODAY IN US, then we have no reason to fear. We have peace because Jesus is our peace in tribulation!
- I PROMISE YOU PEACE: “Peace I LEAVE WITH YOU, My peace I GIVE TO YOU. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)
