“I am the LORD your God: Walk in My 1STATUTES, keep My JUDGMENTS, and DO them;” (Ezek. 20:19) 1chûqqâh: God’s ordinances (laws) or rites. God’s wants us to “walk” (in the present tense, which means NOW) in these STATUTES, which means we do them as a regular part of our daily lives. Just how important were these then and even now, in our lives?
“Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the LORD your God has COMMANDED TO TEACH YOU, that you may observe them…” (Deut. 6:1) Are we still obligated to obey and keep God’s commandments? “For this is the love of God, that we KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. And His commandments are not burdensome.” (1 John 5:3) This is the New Testament by the way! OK so, how do we do it? “And these words which I COMMAND YOU TODAY shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (Deut. 6:6-9)
This is what we do,
- THESE WORDS SHALL BE IN YOUR HEART: “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psa. 119:11)
- TALK OF THEM WHEN YOU SIT, WALK, LIE DOWN, AND WHEN YOU RISE UP: “You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” (Deut. 11:19)
- WRITE THEM ALL AROUND YOUR HOUSE: Because,“ALL SCRIPTURE IS GOD–BREATHED and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim. 3:16-17) “…the word of God is LIVING AND POWERFUL, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Heb. 4:12)
- THIS IS A COMMAND FROM THE LORD,
- WILL WE OBEY IT???
- OR IGNORE IT???
