God’s holiness is His defining characteristic. The holiness of God is a term used in the Bible to describe both His goodness and His power. It is completely unique, and utterly all-powerful, radiating out from God like an energy. In fact, God’s holiness is so overwhelming, that it can actually be dangerous to approach. “WHO IS LIKE YOU, LORD? Who is like you— MAJESTIC IN HOLINESS, awesome in glory, working wonders?” (Exo. 15:11) Jesus Christ our Lord was blessed with this attribute! The angel answered Mary, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. SO THE HOLY ONE TO BE BORN will be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35) Then, this announcement was made, “Who will not fear you, Lord, and bring glory to your name? For YOU ALONE ARE HOLY. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.” (Rev. 15:4) So, how does all this apply to us? “But just as He who called you is holy, so BE HOLY in all you do; for it is written: “BE HOLY, BECAUSE I AM HOLY.” (1 Pet. 1:15-16) Our savior and creator teaches us that we are to be washed in His blood, sanctified and made holy! “…now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap, RESULTS IN A HOLY LIFE, AND FINALLY, ETERNAL LIFE.” (Rom. 6:22)
