“Foolish people say in their hearts, “THERE IS NO GOD.” They do all kinds of horrible and evil things…” (Psalms 53:1)
See, the bible says it “there is no God!”
Yes, you can find those words in the book of Psalms—but the Psalmist clearly says that he is deliberately quoting a fool! In other words, instead of saying there is no God, the Bible is actually saying exactly the opposite. Only a fool, the Bible says, would believe that God doesn’t exist. The scripture states,
“They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;” (Psalm 14:1).
Maybe you have doubts that have kept you from embracing Christianity—or maybe you are a Christian who, like me, occasionally has doubts. The most foundational question about faith is this: HOW CAN WE KNOW THERE REALLY IS A GOD? Let’s face it: it’s hard to believe in an invisible being. We think if God would visibly appear, that would silence our doubts. Yet God did appear in the person of Jesus Christ, and PEOPLE DIDN’T BELIEVE. Jude says,
“Be merciful to those who doubt…” (Jude 1:22).
These words reveal God’s understanding toward those of us who occasionally question the reality of Abba Father whom we have not yet seen but have committed our lives to serving. It is such a clear memory to me, as a sinner living my life to have as much selfish pleasure as possible. My motto was “if it feels good, DO IT!” and thus I became an addict to many awful things. At age 29 I walked into my restroom, closed the door and someone put their arms around me and clearly stated “Bill, I love you!” The love of God poured into me and the great weight of my sin drove me to my knees, causing deep Godly sorrow in my heart. I did not know what to do, or how to pray but the sorrow in my heart toward God led me to sincerely and tearfully say “I AM SORRY!” Suddenly, the great weight was lifted and I became a “new creation” in Christ! Two days later conviction of my drug use led me to an altar and asked the Lord deliver me from these sinful addictions, and He once again spoke to me “Bill, go home and put all your drugs and alcohol in the toilet!” I did and was instantly healed and delivered from my addictions! So, where is MY proof?
- As a sinner, God spoke to me…
- God forgave me, and I was born again…
- God spoke to me again and I obeyed and was sanctified and delivered…
- God called me into the Ministry and has not stopped speaking to me…
Satan is a liar and wants to steal away from us the ability to hear our loving Abba Father’s voice. “You Lord, said, ‘Listen now, and I WILL SPEAK; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’ (Job 42:4).
Jesus said: “…when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will SPEAK ONLY WHAT HE HEARS, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” (John 16:13)
Lord, open our ears to hear you…Bill Stockham
