“One’s 1pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.” (Prov. 29:23) 1ga’ăvâh: arrogance, excellency, haughtiness.
One translation states: “Pride will be the cause of his fall…”
So, how does God feel about our being proud?
“God 2OPPOSES the proud…” (James 4:6) 2an-tee-tas’-som-ahee: resist, oppose, to range in battle against.
Pride was the sin, which transformed Lucifer, an anointed cherub of God, the very “seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty,” (Ezekiel 28:12) into Satan, the devil, the father of lies, the one for whom Hell itself was created. (John 8:44) We’re warned to guard our hearts against pride lest we too “fall into the same condemnation as the devil.” (1 Tim. 3:6) What are the signs that pride is a problem for us?
“How you are fallen from heaven, Lucifer? You said in your heart,
- I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God
- I will set my throne on high;
- I will sit on the mount of assembly.
- I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
- I will make myself like the Most High.’ (Isaiah 14:12-14)
It is not all about me it is all about God!
“God…gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)
This grace is the desire and the power to do the will of God!
