HOW TO BE REALLY BLESSED, AMANDA…

Blessed is the man Who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly…” (Psa. 1:1)

SO AMANDA, AS WE WALK IN GODLY COUNSEL, LET US ASK OURSELVES…

  • WHAT ARE MY DESIRES? As Christians we should desire to do the good that others need, and desire to serve God from the depths of our heart. We should be the kind of people who long to serve God, who enjoy what is good, and who delight in making choices that honor God whether anyone notices or not. This kind of “want to” is what we should hope to accomplish.
  • WHAT ARE MY APPETITES? Our flesh nature is constantly trying to take over. We need to decide daily if you’re going to walk in the flesh or the Spirit. We must train ourself away from carnal things by developing an appetite for the things of God. The mind governed by the flesh is HOSTILE to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh CANNOT PLEASE GOD. (Rom. 8:7-8) See Romans 8:9-10.
  • WHAT CAPTURES MY ATTENTION AND MY AFFECTIONS? As we know, our world offers us a feast of new multimedia — new video games every month, new Hollywood movie releases every week, new YouTube videos every minute, new social media updates every second, and a fresh set of Instagram images with every pull-down-to-refresh gesture. Instant gratification!!! But is it healthy for our spiritual man? We must pay the most CAREFUL ATTENTION, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not DRIFT AWAY. (Heb. 2:1)

For you see AMANDA, the truth is that images aim to provoke something in us in order to extract something from us. New presentations ask us for all sorts of things — our time, our attention, our outrage, our lust, our affections, our money, and our support. Every picture, every video, every tweet brings before us needs, expectations, and desires. They’re all asking for something in return.

So our, “…delight must be in the law of the LORD, And in God’s law we must meditate day and night. We shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever we do SHALL PROSPER. (Psa. 1:2-3)
