God has given us something that is living, it’s alive, It’s full of power and it actually breaths. The reason He has done this is because we struggle with our intimacy with God, which He strongly desires to have with us. Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they MAY HAVE LIFE (zōē: quickened life which comes from God), and HAVE IT TO THE FULL (perissōs: exceeding abundantly, extraordinary)” (John 10:10)
This life that Jesus gives to us comes from God, we are made alive spiritually. Our spiritual man receives extraordinary life where there was no life before. “And you He made alive, WHO WERE DEAD IN TRESPASSES AND SINS, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air…and were by nature children of wrath. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of HIS GREAT LOVE WITH WHICH HE LOVED US, even when we were dead in trespasses, MADE US ALIVE TOGETHER WITH CHRIST (by grace you have been saved), and RAISED US UP TOGETHER, and made us sit together in the heavenly places IN CHRIST JESUS…” (Eph. 2:1-6)
Ok AMANDA, I mentioned that God has given us something that is ALIVE, FULL OF POWER and BREATHES, what is it? “…the word of God is ALIVE and POWERFUL. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit (our soul ruled in our life until we were saved then out spirit came alive and it now rules), between joint and marrow. IT EXPOSES our innermost thoughts and desires.” (Heb. 4:12) We must understand that these are not just words on paper but the Word of God IS ALIVE! How do we know this because Jesus is THE WORD OF GOD. (John 1:1)
Now for the really amazing property of God’s Word, “All Scripture is GOD–BREATHED (theopneustos: theo: God opneustos: breathing) and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED for every good work.” (2 Tim. 3:16-17)
