After seeing the empty tomb and hearing from the angel, “Mary Magdalene and the other women, told these things to the apostles. And their words seemed to them like IDLE TALES (lēros: incredible nonsense), and they DID NOT BELIEVE them.” (Luke 24:10-11) “When Peter and John ran to the tomb, Then the other disciple (John), who came to the tomb first, went in also; and HE SAW (the empty tomb) AND BELIEVED.” (John 20:8) John was the only disciple who believed the Lord!
When Peter and a few others GAVE UP on their ministries and decided to go back to fishing saying, “I am going (hupagō: withdraw or retire from an occupation) fishing. They said to him, “We are going with you also.” They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night THEY CAUGHT NOTHING (not a good start for a new occupation). But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples DID NOT KNOW that it was Jesus. Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?” They answered Him, “NO.” And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were NOT ABLE TO DRAW it in because of the multitude of fish.” (John 21:3-6) They just caught 153 large fish.
Notice Jesus did not scold them for giving up He just showed them what they could do if they believed in and followed Him. I think this is where we are at today. Jesus taught us, “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me WILL DO the same works I have done, and EVEN GREATER works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask FOR ANYTHING in my name, and I WILL DO IT, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.” (John 14:12-13) Jesus said to the father with a demonic son, “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me OVERCOME MY UNBELIEF!” (Mark 9:23-24)
A GOOD PRAYER FOR US TO PRAY TODAY…
