“Am I a God NEAR AT HAND,” says the LORD, “And not a God afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places, So I SHALL not see him?” says the LORD; “DO I NOT FILL HEAVEN AND EARTH?” says the LORD.” (Jeremiah 23:23-24)
If someone is “NEAR AT HAND“, they are near enough for you for you to reach them.
My spirit is restless to understand the ways of the Lord. I know His thoughts are not my thoughts, nor are His ways my ways, but still. I’M HIS CHILD, and I want — I NEED — to see His hand at work in the world around me.
In a devotion I read, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it” (Genesis 28:16), followed by Psalm 139:7, “WHERE CAN I GO from Your Spirit? Or WHERE CAN I FLEE from Your presence?”
Am I aware of God’s presence? Do I look for Him in the hard places, remembering that He promised to never leave me nor forsake me? Is this why He spoke to me in what I perceived to be a stern voice, saying, “AM I A GOD NEAR AT HAND,’ SAYS THE LORD, ‘AND NOT A GOD AFAR OFF? CAN ANYONE HIDE HIMSELF IN SECRET PLACES, SO I SHALL NOT SEE HIM? DO I NOT FILL HEAVEN AND EARTH?”
