“Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry. The devil said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on EVERY WORD (Jesus is declaring that every Word of God is important) that comes from the MOUTH OF GOD.‘” (Matthew 4:1-4) This is true because, “…the word of God is LIVING and POWERFUL, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner (a revealer) of the THOUGHTS and INTENTS of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
How can God’s word be alive? “All Scripture is GOD–BREATHED (theo–pneustos: God’s breath) and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) That’s why God inspired Solomon to write, “Trust in the LORD with ALL your heart…And He shall DIRECT YOUR PATHS.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
SO, IF WE DO READ GOD’S WORD, HE WILL BREATHE HIS LIVING, POWERFUL AND REVEALING WORD INTO OUR HEARTS AND LIVES.
