“While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an ALABASTER JAR OF VERY EXPENSIVE PERFUME, which she poured on His head as He was reclining at the table. When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “WHY THIS WASTE?” they asked. “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.” Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? SHE HAS DONE A BEAUTIFUL THING TO ME.” (Matt. 26:6-10) Just to put this in perspective WILL, for today’s value, 1 pence was equal to one day’s wages for a working class person. 300 pence would be equal to about 1 years wages. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American worker gets paid $24.57 per hour in December 2018, that would be $58,968 in today’s dollars. People would purchase this very costly perfume for their burial to cover the smell of their decaying bodies. This woman gave her all for Jesus and His response was “SHE HAS DONE A BEAUTIFUL THING TO ME”
