“GOD IS LIGHT and in Him is NO DARKNESS AT ALL.” (1 John 1:5) Light is the nature and character of God. He is not a light or a kind of light; GOD IS LIGHT ITSELF. All light comes from Him. At the beginning of time, He created the light to dispel the darkness and chaos that was over all the earth. “The earth was without form, and void; and 1DARKNESS WAS ON THE FACE OF THE DEEP. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “LET THERE BE LIGHT“; AND THERE WAS LIGHT.” (Gen. 1:2-3) 1choshek: misery, destruction, death and wickedness.
It is important for us to understand, without God in our lives, WE ARE IN DARKNESS. “For men will be lovers of themselves, LOVERS OF PLEASURE rather than lovers of God…” (2 Tim. 3:2-4). For example, sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) used to be called venereal diseases or VD. They are among the most common contagious diseases. More than 65 million Americans have an incurable STD. Each year, 20 MILLION NEW CASES are reported; half of these infections are among people ages 15 to 24 and they can have long-term consequences. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 19.7 MILLION American adults (aged 12 and older) battled a substance use disorder in 2017.
As the bible says, being in darkness is misery, destruction and death! Oh how desperately God’s light is needed today! Where did that light come from? Was it the Sun? No, the sun was not created until the fourth day! Jesus said, “I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. He who follows Me SHALL NOT WALK IN DARKNESS, but have the LIGHT OF LIFE.” (John 8:12) Then Jesus said to us, His followers,
YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. A CITY THAT IS SET ON A HILL CANNOT BE HIDDEN…(Matt. 5:14)
