“The earth was formless and empty (tôhû: confusion, unreality. bôhû: formlessness and emptiness.)…” This was before God began the “creation” process, there was nothing but chaos and confusion. So, how does all the chaos and confusion GET ELIMINATED? “…the Spirit of God was HOVERING (rāḥap̄: moving gently) over the surface of the waters.” (Genesis 1:2) Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is PEACE AND CALM…
Then God said, “LET THERE BE LIGHT;” and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God DIVIDED THE LIGHT FROM THE DARKNESS.” (Genesis 1:3-4) The darkness was eliminated by the light. Just what is this “light”? “Then Jesus spoke, saying, “I AM the LIGHT OF THE WORLD. He who follows Me SHALL NOT WALK IN DARKNESS (skotia: ignorance of divine things) but have the LIGHT OF LIFE.” (John 8:12) The apostle John reminds us, “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is NO DARKNESS AT ALL.” (1 John 1:5)
One more very wonderful thing to remember about the Lord, “God is not the author of confusion but OF PEACE…” (1 Corinthians 14:33) Satan wants to disrupt our peace so he sends, “…false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into AN ANGEL OF LIGHT.” (2 Corinthians 11:13-14) How can we distinguish which light is of God and which light is of Satan? Our minds and hearts are easily confused by conflicting messages. How can we make sure we are on the right path?
“I’m going to do what you tell me to do; Please don’t give up on me! How can a young person stay pure? By OBEYING YOUR WORD. I trust in you with all my heart—DON’T LET ME WANDER from your commands. I have HIDDEN YOUR WORD in my heart, that I might not sin against you. I TRUST IN YOU with all my heart. How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey. Your commandments GIVE ME UNDERSTANDING; Your word is a LAMP to guide my feet and a LIGHT for my path.” (Psalms 119: 8-11, 103-105)
