“…whoever has will be GIVEN MORE, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be TAKEN FROM THEM.” (Matt. 25:29) Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is like a man about to go on a journey and he “…called his servants and ENTRUSTED HIS WEALTH TO THEM. To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, EACH ACCORDING TO HIS ABILITY. Then he went on his journey.” (Matt. 25:14-15) Notice, it was according to each one’s ability.
Jesus is teaching us that no matter how LITTLE OUR FAITH IS, we need to put it to work, or else it will decay. I don’t think that we should read Jesus’ words as threat of punishment, but as a STIFF DOSE OF REALITY. The simple truth is that if we have enough faith to follow Christ, our faith WILL GROW STRONGER as we attempt to do His will. If we have so little faith that we don’t respond, the tiny bit we do have will tend to GROW WEAKER and the “…thief will come and steal, kill, and destroy…” our faith. (John 10:10)
We must HOLD ON to our faith, NO MATTER HOW SMALL IT MAY BE, knowing that Jesus has, “…come that we may have LIFE (zōē: quickened life), and that we may have it more ABUNDANTLY (perissos: superior in quality).” (John 10:10)
