“As God’s co-workers we urge you NOT TO RECEIVE GOD’S GRACE IN VAIN.” (2 Corin. 6:1) Paul then instructed the Corinthians by telling them, “Therefore dear friends, since we have such promises, we should wash ourselves clean from every impurity of the flesh and spirit, making our SANCTIFICATION (hagiōsunē: sacredness, moral purity) COMPLETE in the fear of God.” (2 Corin. 7:2) The NLT reads like this, “Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward COMPLETE HOLINESS because we fear God.” (2 Corin. 7:1)
We are all being given a call for SPIRITUAL PURITY and the purification of our inner heart. This is a call for godly virtue in our inner being. We are summoned towards uprightness within the hidden motives of our minds. “But now YOU MUST BE HOLY in everything you do, just as God who CHOSE YOU is holy. For the Scriptures say (God says), “You MUST BE HOLY because I AM HOLY.” (1 Peter 1:15-16) God would not tell us this if it were something we couldn’t do…
