
“…Jesus said, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall MAKE YOU FREE.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and HAVE NEVER BEEN IN BONDAGE (slavery) to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin IS A SLAVE (in bondage) OF SIN. Therefore if the Son makes you free, YOU SHALL BE FREE INDEED.” (John 8:31-36) For years the children of Israel turned away from following God, and now were rejecting the Word of God who said, “…My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns (water reservoirs) —broken cisterns that can hold no water.” (Jer. 2:13) A cistern was an artificial reservoir which was dug in the earth or hewn in the rock for the collection and storage of water. Cisterns were very important in the land of Israel because of the long dry season and the relatively few natural springs.
