As Christian’s our speech should CONSISTENTLY HONOR THE LORD: “But no man can tame the tongue. It is an UNRULY EVIL, FULL OF DEADLY POISON. With it we BLESS our God and Father, and with it we CURSE men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things OUGHT NOT TO BE SO.” (James 3:8-10) “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” (Proverbs 18:21) “…perverse (seleph: crookedness, crooked dealing) speech breaks the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:4)
What our tongue produces has eternal implications, for it reveals what is IN OUR HEART. Jesus said that “An evil-hearted man is FILLED WITH VENOM, and his speech reveals it.” (Matthew 12:35)
So, is that it? Our tongue cannot be tamed. Notice it says “no MAN can tame the tongue…” What about God, can He tame our tongue? YES! “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you PRESENT YOUR BODIES (including your tongue) a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed (suschēmatizō: be the same as) to this world but be transformed (metamorphoō: is a metamorphosis where we are miraculously changed into a new creation) by the renewing (anakainōsis: change of heart and life) of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2) “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is A NEW CREATION; old things have PASSED AWAY; behold, all things have BECOME NEW (including our tongue).” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
