“I don’t trust in my bow. My sword doesn’t bring me success. But YOU GIVE US SUCCESS over our enemies...” (Psalms 44:6-7)
Joshua is considered as one of the greatest military leaders, two of His most famous victories were the battle of Jericho and Gibeon. In both of these a miraculous intervention by God was involved. “…the LORD spoke to Joshua…
“Moses My servant is dead; now therefore arise, cross this Jordan…Every place…the sole of your foot treads, I HAVE GIVEN IT TO YOU…” (Josh. 1:1-3)
The Lord went on to tell Joshua,
“…Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God IS WITH YOU wherever you go.” (Josh. 1:9)
Joshua knew the Lord was with him, he submitted and obeyed and there was a great victory over Jericho, then this happened:
“…Joshua …saw a man…with his sword…Joshua…said, Are you for us or against us? And he said, NO…I have come as captain of the armies of the Lord. Then Joshua, falling down…face to the earth in worship…What has my lord to say…the captain…said to Joshua, Take off your shoes…for the place where you are is holy. And Joshua did so.” (Josh. 5:13-15)
Joshua learned to submit to the Lord and to be obedient, recognizing that God was always with him! We must realize that where ever we meet the Lord in prayer becomes A HOLY PLACE! It would not be such a bad idea for us to remove our shoes in honor to the Lord.
Then, SUBMIT to the Lord and BE OBEDIENT to Him!
